An Insight Into Refugee Health

REFUGEE:  A person who owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality and is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country; or who, not having a nationality and being outside the country of his former habitual residence as a result of such events, is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to return to it..”

  • Meet with Physicians for Human Rights who work on the frontlines of refugee health issues.
  • Meet with Physicians who run “Save a Child’s Heart”, an inspiring organization providing lifesaving treatment for children with cardiac problems from around the world.
  • Visit the Technion University, Israel’s world renowned academic institution for science and engineering, and hear refugee success stories. Meet Faculty of Medicine members
  • Visit Trendlines the premier incubator for medical devices in Israel. Learn about some of the exciting new developments that are coming out of the creative minds of Israel’s start-up ecosystem
  • Visit the Ziv Hospital where wounded Syrians are being treated by Israeli medical teams.  Physicians will share with us the stories of dealing with this unusual situation, both from a clinical and human perspective.
  • Travel to Jordan to meet with a Chaldean Bishop in Amman and hear about the struggles and health issues of Chaldeans seeking safe haven.
  • Visit the outskirts of the Zaatari Refugee Camp to meet Syrian refugees in northern Jordan together with Jordanian human rights activists.
  • Meet Eli Beer, the founder of Hatzalah, the emergency response organization, who has created a network that literally saves lives daily in Israel and now around the world.
  • Shabbat in Jerusalem
  • Visit and tour Hadassah Medical Center, one of the Middle East’s premier medical facilities. Meet members of the Faculty of Medicine to learn about health care delivery to different sectors in Israel’s multicultural mosaic.
  • Tour the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) and meet with Government officials who are dealing with Israel’s immigration policy and absorption.
